William G. Hill Celebrates 150th Anniversary with Gala Dinner Event
The brethren of William G. Hill Lodge #218 celebrated their 150th Anniversary with a special Gala Dinner Event at the Raleigh Country Club on December 13, 2014. The event included a special visit from the most worshipful Grand Master Douglas Caudle, as well as Junior Grand Deacon Mack Sigmon.
Most Worshipful Caudle addressed the brethren from William G. Hill and other attendees from area lodges and provided a stirring presentation for historical background. The Grand Master’s presentation was followed by a brief presentation from WGH Past Master J.R. “Jack” Harman, Sr., who, as the lodge’s historian, provided additional details on the lodge’s 150 year history and pitched the new commemorative book, titled “History of William G. Hill Lodge No. 218”, which is now available for purchase.
WB Harman also won the lodge’s award for “Mason of the Year” for all the work he had contributed to the commemorative book and the year-long 150th Anniversary celebration. Worshipful Master Scott Souffrant, who presided over the festivities, presented the award to WB Harman.
Attendees were treated to dinner and dancing, as well as special displays of William G. Hill historical documents and photos and other masonic memorabilia. They were also given the opportunity to purchase commemorative coins celebrating the lodge’s 150 years of operation.
The event also represented William G. Hill’s effort to honor the lodge’s widows, and WB Souffrant presented each widow in attendance with a commemorative Widows Pin.
